Mother Jones (1837-1930) born in Ireland and survived the potato famine, emigrated to America, got married and lost her husband and 4 children to yellow fever in 1867. She moved to Chicago and opened a hat shop, which she lost in the Great Chicago Fire. She spent the remainder of her life agitating and organizing for better working conditions and an end to child labor.
In 1902 she was called the "most dangerous woman in the world" for her organizing skills.
