Navigate, curate and create information across the spectrum of human records from local to global contexts.
Outcome 3a: Utilize the resources needed to manage information.
The most challenging course I have taken has been 703: Organization of Knowledge. The things that I learned in that class have proved invaluable in navigating the information-dense world. The artifact that I have chosen for this outcome is my final exam for 703. Knowing how to catalog individual items and knowing how the catalog works has given me a greater understanding of the role of librarians in the world. Librarians do more than connect patrons to information; they make information available to the whole world. My favorite thing about cataloging is that the information made available allows information seekers to come away with exactly what they need instead of kind-of-sort-of what they need. As a result of my learning in Organization of Knowledge I am comfortable moving across different electronic catalog platforms. At my current practicum site, I have taught tweens the difference between a title search and a subject search, and then seen those patrons use that technique at a later time.

Outcome 3b: Design tools that facilitate access to information.
One of the biggest learning experiences for me was the entire semester of 704: Reference and Online Services. In addition to learning how to find information, I learned how to interact with patrons to offer the best level of help. The artifact I have chosen is a website that I created for my final project. It is a subject guide to Modern Art. Reference taught me that when I am providing answers to questions I need to keep the user in mind. I designed this website to be easy to navigate and with a wide variety of materials that cover the subject from books to online lectures to apps. The audience for this website is high school students, so entries are brief and I included a reminder on how to locate physical items. Through my experiences in 704, I feel prepared to create tools both online and offline that are dynamic and user-friendly.

Outcome 3c: Evaluate tools that facilitate access to information.
In 704: Reference and Online Services there was a lot of hands-on assessment of both materials and entire collections. This repeated practice taught me to look at the scope and breadth of a library's collection in order to understand both the library and the population it serves. By honing this skill I have found wonderful surprises and sad disappointments in my many library visits over the past few years. The artifact that I have chosen is my first assessment for 704, a Reference Library/Collection Observation Report. I observed two libraries and was able to make a few conclusions from what I saw. Since that time, I have learned more about how libraries are transitioning their reference collections to online sources. I have also learned that each library has a unique way in responding to patron demand for resources.
